Residents from Royton Avenue and Chilston Road attended the meeting to discuss the possibility of land at Royton Avenue being earmarked for parking. It was stressed this is a residential area, and in the opinion of those present, not suitable as a parking overspill for the Square.
Cllr. Osborne explained the land was being considered as one of three identified possible options for extra parking provision. The options were identified during the process of the Lenham Neighbourhood Plan 2017.
With the extra proposed development in the parish, parishioners had raised the concern of increased parking problems which will only be exasperated and need to be considered as an overall infrastructure plan during the NHP progress.
A meeting with MBC for professional advice had taken place, at which the lack of parking enforcement and insufficient spaces were discussed, a report of the meeting will be made available to the resident’s present.
Cllr. Greenwood confirmed there were no plans to remove any of the trees on the land at Royton Avenue and a play park had not been considered for the area. Residents suggested improvements to established parking areas may offer extra spaces. LPC are open to considering other options and expert advice on car parking design will be sought. No decision on parking will be made without full public consultation during the NHP process, where all suggested parking options will be displayed and further discussions undertaken.
The deeds for dwellings in Royton Avenue which show the boundaries will be made available to the LPC.
Cllrs. confirmed all residents will be kept fully informed of future proposals.
The Chairman thanked the parishioners for their attendance and opened the meeting at 8.25pm.
