REPORT OF THE FINANCE & GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE MEETING HELD IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE

ON WEDNESDAY 17thAPRIL 2019 AT 7.30pm

2.          DISCLOSURES AND CONFIDENTIAL ITEMS ON THE AGENDA   

No disclosures or confidential items on the agenda.

3.              ENVIRONMENT WORKS & PROJECT UPDATES

Tree damage during the recent storms has been cleared from the rear of a property in Loder Close.

A quote has been received for the removal of the diseased tree at a cost of £850 + vat.

A recommendation will be made to full council for the work to be carried out subject to the statutory permissions being granted.

The grounds maintenance contract was discussed in detail (quote circulated to Cllrs. before the meeting). The increased cost of maintaining the cemetery will mean a recommended 10% increase in the charges for cemetery services, this will be a June agenda item.  The Clerk will meet with the contractors to confirm the areas to be maintained and the expected maintenance schedule.

A request for a dog bin at Lenham Heath (near the solar park) will be an agenda item for June, following the costings and the exact position of the bin is agreed.

A request for a litter bin in Faversham Road near the junction with Royton Avenue will be an agenda item for June following costings and the exact position of the bin is agreed.

It is recommended the trees next to the Maidstone Road car park (on the grass area) are cut back, subject to conservation area permissions.

Cllr. Walmsley is organising a meeting to discuss the data collection of the numbers of vehicles and recorded speeds, in conjunction with the proposed traffic improvement scheme at Platts Heath; representatives from KCC Highways and County Cllr. S Prendergast will be in attendance.  

Cllr. Ballard confirmed S106 monies will be available for the William Pitt field skate park improvements.

A consultation will be organised to decide on the equipment provided, which could include an outdoor gym facility.

4.         ACCOUNTS

The 2018 – 2019 audit return papers have been received; the Clerk will organise the internal audit.

5.         CORRESPONDENCE

The Borough Council election details of notice of the poll will be advertised on the notice boards along with the details of the European Parliamentary election for South East region.
