Lenham Cross gets spring clean
Lenham Parish Council
The Lenham Cross is one of only two chalk-based memorials in the southest, the other is at Shoreham.
Over the weekend of the 5/6 April a group of hardy volunteers worked to give the Cross a spring clean, to remove the layers of algea and dirt that had built up over the winter months. The changes to climate, with warmer, wetter winters mean that the Cross needs regular attention. As the parish council gets no financial support for this responsibility we rely on volunteers to help with the work. Given the quite difficult setting (it is on a steep scarp slope) the weather can impact on whether it is safe to climb the slope to reach the top of the Cross.
As you will see from the picture, the volunteers have done an amazing job - a huge thanks to Cllr Andy Ratcliff who organised the spring clean up and the volunteers who came forward to help.
Excellent job everyone!
